In 1998, we were working with 13 schools in Baltimore. Filmmaker Jon Palfreman was in the process of filming material for the documentary, The Battle of City Springs, which showed the incredible difficulty we were having in implementing Direct Instruction in City Springs Elementary school. The school was in its second year with 19 brand new teachers. In some ways, it was like starting over that year.

During the filming, Jon did an interview of me. He asked a variety of questions. Only a few seconds of the footage appeared in the documentary; however, I thought this may have been the best interview I had ever done, largely because Jon asked very good questions.
